Camp Adventure is a privately-owned entrepreneurial company that originates from its sister company, Manova, located at Østerbro in Copenhagen. Camp Adventure and the Forest Tower are run by a group of experienced, curious, and hard-working employees and experts with international vision and ambitions.
From the beginning, the mission has been to provide people with an experience of the beauty of nature by staging nature in new ways and making it accessible. Always with respect for the originality of nature and with a high focus on aesthetics and quality.
Since 2013, Camp Adventure has been the lessee of the buildings and the belonging land of almost 30 hectares of Gisselfeld Kloster (approximately 20 football fields). The area is also known as Denderup Vænge. It is characterized by the undulating landscape shaped during the Ice Age with the brook, Brødebækken, flowing through. The area is surrounded by large beech- and oak trees.
In the same year, Camp Adventure erected Denmark's largest climbing park in the forest around and above the Brødbækken. Even after the first season, it was clear that the place had the potential to evolve and offer other kinds of nature experiences. In 2014, a delegation from Camp Adventure visited several vantage towers in Europe, including the vantage tower at Rügen, and here the idea of creating Scandinavia's first vantage tower was created. The process proceeded as follows:
2014-2016 Permits, licences authorizations
2015-2018 Developing concept and design
2016-2018 Financing
2018-2019 Construction
Uniquely, Camp Adventure was granted permission to build the Forest Tower in the preserved forest.
On the 31st of March 2019, Camp Adventure opened the first observation tower in Scandinavia designed by the architectural collaborative EFFEKT.
Among several initiatives, the future of Camp Adventure includes a new entrance arena with meeting facilities, a restaurant, and a shop with merchandise and local specialities. Camp Adventure will also be offering different options for overnight staying. From early on, the Forest Tower project has enjoyed strong international interest, which has been contributing to the project becoming a reality.
Camp Adventure – and the Forest Tower – have received funds from the EU development fund, LAG. Additionally, Vækstfonden and Nordea have lent Camp Adventure money for the project.
